thanks for the reply 285alan. but i am not referring to clear plastic. My job will be a metal sheet which is painted black(or any other solid color). i need only the paint to be burnt off as per design provided. can this be achieved? Also i need to know if it can engrave on an uneven surface
Clear plastic no! unless you leave the paper backing on both sides and engrave the paper as well.
Make sure the paper is flat and not off the plastic in some way.

Oh sorry I thought you said " painted surface (enamel/plastic) "
I have not tried to burn off paint on metal; Don't see why that would not work.
How uneven? I have cut flats with 1/8" depth difference without a problem too.
