It's such a pity, because otherwise I like the game even with minimal changes. Sure, this year's initiative to get even more control over the dribblings on the right stick and the new, alternative throwing system, which aims at accuracy in the target movement rather than timing (for online matches with not necessarily perfect connection quite clever), are more of a step to the side and just a bit forward. After all, the many manoeuvres on the stick also add potential for incorrect input, and you can create the best build in NBA 2K21 Next Gen. More ambitious players than I am happy with the increased degree of fine control though. It's also nice that the Neighborhood has moved to California and you no longer have to hold your pick-up matches in depressingly urban backyards.

What are these people in the background? What are they doing? And why don't they wear masks!?
The small innovations fit well into the solid foundation of wonderful animations and a quite clever AI. When you have a run in 2K21, it feels like it's real. undeserved defeats after home-grown leadership are as devastating as they are in reality, let's tell you that from a district league/class Northern veteran. Of course, the fact that you rely on your basics in this way also means that there are still a lot of legacy issues. Shaq as a pre-game expert is always welcome, but his model last looked impressive four years ago. And on the court, especially on the defensive side, you still get stuck a little too often with other players (teammates in particular), which then frustrates a little. After all, you depend on good ratings, if you want to earn a few VC by playing and defensive carvers make themselves particularly negative.
NBA 2k21 review - Conclusion
What happens when EA Live reactivates and continues where they left off with the 19 version: with an uncomplicated, fast and above all not interspersed with microtransactions carefree-satisfied basketball, which you like to play just because you get what is on the pack - and you don't have to buy the fun in a bit of a chuckle, you don't want to grin. 2K would be forced to re-enact both technically and playfully vigorously and, if not to cancel its VC begging, then at least to shift to less essential playing areas. Other large and elaborate games also manage to finance themselves entirely through cosmetic transactions. Why shouldn't it work here?
Until then: Solid game, once again, which can bring the sport to life and employ hundreds of hours. But enthusiasm hasn't played a part on my court for a long time. It was different. I want that feeling back.
